 Dr. Benjamin Gage Furtado, DVM

Dr. Benjamin Gage Furtado, DVM is a graduate with High Honors of Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine. His clinical studies were performed at University of Florida. He has been practicing veterinary medicine in the Hickory area since 2012. Dr. Furtado has a strong interest in internal medicine, dermatology, and emergency/critical care medicine. In his free time, he enjoys being in the outdoors with his wife, Mary, and their 2 sons, Quinn and Max, live music, and tie dyeing. He has a beagle named Soup-a-doop and a cat named Potion. |
Dr. Ashley Fleshman, DVM

Dr. Ashley Fleshman, DVM is a graduate of St George’s University. She was a vet tech for 10 years prior to graduation. She has worked as a veterinarian for 10 years at a mixed animal practice in Star Valley, Wyoming. Her family is from North Carolina but she moved to Hickory in January 2024. Dr. Ashley enjoys all aspects of veterinary medicine but does have a strong interest in urgent care, internal medicine, ultrasounds, and senior wellness. In her free time, she enjoys working on her large animals, fishing, hiking, swimming, and spending time with her husband, Greg, and three sons; Noah, Zack, and Isaac. She has a golden retriever named Clifford, two cats; Linguine Fettuccine Tails and Barnabus, two horses; Kermit and Willow, a goat named Goatie, and 6 chicks; Buckie, Tuckie, Pepper, Shadow, Grace, and Gladys.

 Caitlyn - Office Manager/Veterinary Assistant

Caitlyn was born and currently resides in Granite Falls, NC, with her two children and two fur babies: Lucchese and Wrangler. She developed a love for animals at a young age and has worked in the veterinary field for 8 years. In her free time, Caitlyn enjoys spending time outdoors. |

Blake has lived in North Carolina for most of her life. She has 3 dogs: Sergeant, Milo, and Rambo, and 4 cats: Cedes, Churro, Chicken, amd Tofu. Her hobbies include traveling all over the world, going on adventures with her fiance, snuggling with her fur babies, and trying out any kind of new food. |
Jennifer- Veterinary Assistant

Jennifer has lived in Hickory her whole life. She has 3 cats that are her world, Bagheera, Oliver, and Mowgli. She would love to adopt a dog, but one of her cats will not allow that. She has a son named Noah. Her hobbies include going to concerts, hanging out with her cats, going to the beach, and working with her foster cats. She loves working at MVAH because she loves seeing all the animals that come through the doors and being able to provide the best care for them. Having previously worked in the human medical field, she has quickly realized that the veterinary field is where she is meant to be. |
Sofia- Veterinary Assistant

Sofia has lived in North Carolina her whole life, constantly moving around the beautiful state. She grew up on a farm filled with goats, sheep, pigs, and every type of bird imaginable. She loves her dogs, Pickle and Mattheo, and her partner, Ethan, more than anything in the whole world. Her hobbies include making art and writing. She hopes to stay in the veterinary field for the rest of her life. |
Jeanne- Veterinary Assistant

Jeanne was born in Indiana and moved to Hickory in 2018. She has a dog named Boomer, 2 cats: Joey and Jack, 4 horses: Frankie, Ruby, Cooper, and Smokey, 1 miniature horse: Peanut, 1 donkey: Willie, and 21 chickens. Her hobbies include photography, riding horses, and collecting succulents. |
Lauryl- Veterinary Assistant

Lauryl has lived in Valdese her whole life. She has 1 dog named Rylie, 4 cats: Oakley, Oliver, Rowan, and Phoenix, and a chinchilla named Finn. She graduated from NC State with a bachelors in animal science. Her hobbies include hanging out with family and friends, running, reading, snuggling with her animals, and watching movies. |

Heather grew up and currently resides in Granite Falls with her 2 lovable dogs ,Clyde and Darcie. Heather is passionate about caring for animals and has a strong love for special needs/senior dogs. Shih Tzu’s are her favorite breed, her dream is to adopt one in every color. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her kids (her dogs), hiking, and backpacking.
